One of my greatest joys is seeing someone get their life back! - Dr. Jordan Weeda, DC

Chiropractic Care

The major premise of Chiropractic Care is that life is intelligent, and when trauma happens to the body, it can cause the body to distort and reduce the expression of that intelligence.  This can cause pain, allow disease processes to take root, affect our emotions, and negatively impact our posture. The chiropractor's job is find where the body has distorted and make adjustments so that life can be more fully expressed, reducing pain, reversing disease processes, balancing emotions, and improving posture.

Dr. Jordan Weeda, DC has well over a decade of experience working with a wide variety of cases. His initial focus of specialty since he began in practice in 2009 is the upper cervical (neck) spine (atlas or C1) and how correcting misalignments in this area profoundly improves the function of the spine and nervous system.  His training and background was in NUCCA (www.nucca.org) and QSM3 (www.qsm3.com). Over time in practice, he found that as his patients would "unwind" as the upper cervical spine was corrected, other areas in the body that had been affected by trauma and/or compensation in the spine, pelvis, extremities, muscles, and the visceral.  Adjusting these areas greatly improved the speed of recovery for the patient and gave lasting results.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic
The upper cervical spine consists of the occiput (base of the skull), atlas (C1), and axis (C2). This area of the spine is closely associated with the brainstem and it has the highest concentration of proprioceptors (muscle cells that tell your brain where you are) making highly neurologically enriched. This area is also highly influential on the myofascial system which encompasses the entire body. Also, this area is prone to trauma because of how the mass head sits on top of the spine. Our bodies are wired to compensate for imbalance in this area so people who have an imbalance here will often present with a leg that appears to be short because of how muscles contract.

Dr. Weeda developed a method of correcting the upper cervical spine based on the training he received from NUCCA, QSM3, Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP) among others. The assessment and adjustment are primarily performed with the patient standing upright. The adjustment is very gentle.

Extremity Adjusting
The hips, knees, and feet are responsible for supporting the human torso and not only are prone to trauma, but often compensate for spinal distortions. Adjusting the lower extremity is helpful in stabilizing the spine as the body unwinds. Dr. Weeda often works with athletes who have developed foot, ankle, knee or hip problems from the repetitive stress of running, jumping, etc with a body that is misaligned.

Shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand also can be prone to trauma from both traumatic injuries and from repetitive use. The shoulders especially are involved with imbalances in the upper cervical spine, and freeing restrictions in this area helps stabilize the cervical spine.

Extremity adjustments feels great. Often there is a pop or release sensation when the adjustment is performed. Often soft tissue release techniques are used to break up scar tissue, remove distortions in muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and release adhesions along nerve sheaths. Sometimes soft-tissue work is little painful, but often provides quick relief.

The cranial bones (the bones of the skull) are sutured together, but in a healthy skull they should be able to flex slightly and aid in movement of cerebrospinal fluid. Trauma to the head can caused these sutures to get stuck, and the skull distort. Chronic upper cervical misalignments sometimes lead to distortions in the cranial system contributing to headaches, brain fog, TMJ (jaw) problems, and even sinus problems.

These distortions that can be corrected with gentle pressure and a dural release technique.

Visceral Manipulation
Abdominal organs sometimes can become slightly displaced, or become adhered to adjacent tissue and lose their ability to move fluidly. Trauma, stress, chronic gut inflammation, and even pregnancy can cause this to happen. Some symptoms may be: constipation, frequent diarrhea, bloating, low back pain, mid back pain, trouble with deep breathing, heartburn, incomplete digestion of food, endometriosis, painful intercourse, etc.

Visceral manipulation is done with the patient fully clothed (usually in something with a soft waistband). It involves palpation of the abdomen to find location of organs, and where movement is not occurring. Manual pressure with the doctor’s hand is used on the abdomen to gently move organs and release adhesions. Pressure can vary from shallow to deep depending on what area the doctor is working on.

Spinal Adjustments
In most cases, Dr. Weeda, DC will also use some traditional manual Chiropractic adjusting techniques to restore movement in the spine and pelvis. The adjustment techniques he uses are very specific and gentle.
